One of the most prominent films to depict BDSM imagery, the 1967 French film Belle de Jour has become an erotic cult classic. The film tells the tale of Séverine Serizy (Catherine Deneuve), a sexually frustrated young housewife who has masochistic yearnings for bondage and flogging.  In the film’s graphic opening scene, Séverine dreams of a highly-detailed scenario where she is taken out to the country in a horse carriage, bound and whipped by two coachmen while her husband watches.
